World 5 is the fifth World in Super Mario 3D World. This is mainly a beach themed world. The World contains seven main courses, two Enemy Blockade courses, a Captain Toad course, a secret course titled The Golden Express, and a Castle. There's also a Sprixie House, which rewards you with a Stamp. As with previous Worlds, there are multiple coins, Question Blocks, and 1-Up Mushrooms on the map. The boss encountered in this world is King Ka-Thunk. Defeating that creature will free the Purple Sprixie Princess, who will create a Clear Pipe, sending you to World 6.

[edit] World 5-1, Sunshine Seaside

Sunshine Seaside

Sunshine Seaside is the first course of World 5 in Super Mario 3D World. The Boomerang Suit, originally from Super Mario 3D Land, makes a return in this course. The first part of this course has the player finding 5 keys scattered on the beach. There are Koopas, Biddybuds, and Chargin' Chucks that appear throughout this section of the course. After you find the 5 keys and unlock the Warp Box, you'll be sent underground, where you must ride Plessie over a narrow river. You must carefully cross the moving bridges or you will fall into the bottomless pit. After reaching the end, you'll enter a Warp Pipe, sending you to the Flag Pole. Clearing this course will open the path to both World 5-2, Tricky Trapeze Theater, and World 5-3, Backstreet Bustle.

  • Green Star 1: Break one of the Goomba sand statues at the beginning of the course to reveal the first Green Star.
  • Green Star 2: You'll see a Warp Pipe underwater. Head inside of it, and in the next room, light up all of the floor tiles to be rewarded with the second Green Star.
  • Green Star 3: Head to the far right of the sandy beach section. Jump inside of the wall and defeat the Biddybuds surrounding Captain Toad. The Toad will give you the final Green Star.

During the Plessie section, you will reach a part where you must carefully jump on the wooden platforms on the right. The Stamp appears on the platform.

Tricky Trapeze Theater

Tricky Trapeze Theater is the second course of World 5 in Super Mario 3D World. This course is circus themed that's filled with many trapezes and tilting platforms, which you're required to use to progress to the end. Near the checkpoint, are a ton of Piranha Plants. You can get a Mega Mushroom from the Question Block in the center of the area. Use that to defeat the Piranha Plants. Completing this course will open the path to the Enemy Blockade Course, World 5-A, Chargin' Chuck Crusade is Back.

  • Green Star 1: In the beginning, swing to the left from the third trapeze, to land on a hidden cloud allowing you to obtain the first Green Star on the platform nearby.
  • Green Star 2: Near the area with the Piranha Plants, head to the right to reach a Warp Pipe. Inside, hit the blue P-Switch and quickly collect all of the blue coins that appear to be rewarded with the second Green Star.
  • Green Star 3: Once you exit the Clear Pipe, touch the Star Ring. Then, use the trapezes to quickly collect the eight Green Coins. Collect them all to earn the final Green Star.

After the section with the Piranha Plants, use the bouncy platform to reach a platform above. The Stamp is in plain sight for you to simply grab.

Backstreet Bustle

Backstreet Bustle is the third course of World 5 in Super Mario 3D World. This course is optional and requires 80 Green Stars to access. The course is very short, with only 100 seconds, and consists of blue lava and the numbered floor panels, which require use of the Double Cherry powerup. There are three numbered floor panels, "2", "3", and "4", which allows you to progress to the end. Clearing this course will also open the path to the Enemy Blockade Course, World 5-A, Chargin' Chuck Crusade is Back.

  • Green Star 1: At the beginning, head to the right until you see a damaged floor tile. Ground Pound it to uncover the first Green Star.
  • Green Star 2: You need to get 4 clones on the number panel labeled "4". The platform will rise, allowing you to obtain the second Green Star.
  • Green Star 3: Either drop from the platform where you got the second Green Star to the one below, or have 3 clones stand on the number panel labeled "3", and that platform will take you to the second Green Star.

Toad is required to obtain this course's Stamp. Head to the right, and hit the switch as Toad to uncover the Stamp.

Chargin' Chuck Blockade is Back

Chargin' Chuck Blockade is Back is the first Enemy Blockade of World 5 in Super Mario 3D World. This enemy blockade is similar to the one in World 1-A, Chargin' Chuck Blockade. With this course, you're once again in a small room and must defeat five Chargin' Chucks instead of two. Completing this course will earn you one Green Star, as well as open the path to World 5-4, Sprawling Savanna.

Sprawling Savanna

Sprawling Savanna is the fourth course of World 5 in Super Mario 3D World. The course us set at a savanna during the sunset. It begins with a Clear Pipe launching you to a mountain you must climb while avoiding the Ant Troopers and Fuzzies. You'll reach another Clear Pipe sending you to a wide open area, which consists of rabbits and more enemies. Near the end of the open area, you must climb up another mountain, as well as go through a series of Clear Pipes while avoiding Fuzzies. At the end consists of rotating platforms and shortly after, the Flag Pole. Clearing this course will open the path to both World 5-5, Bob-ombs Below and World 5-6, Cakewalk Flip.

  • Green Star 1: The Super Bell powerup is required. At the second Clear Pipe, use the Super Bell and climb up the wall to the left to reveal two hidden blocks. Use those blocks to grab the first Green Star in the wall.
  • Green Star 2: In the open area, find the rabbit with the green aura surrounding it. Chase and grab the rabbit to obtain the second Green Star.
  • Green Star 3: Near the end, by the rotating platforms, grab the Star Ring. Then, grab the 8 Green Coins and you'll be rewarded with the final Green Star.

In the open area, head to the right and you'll see a group of Ant Troopers walking inside of a hole. Head in that same hole to reach a secret area. Inside, grab the Stamp on top of the large Ant Trooper.

Bob-ombs Below

Bob-ombs Below is the fifth course of World 5 in Super Mario 3D World. This is an underground course that's inhabited by Bob-ombs. Most Bob-ombs need to be used to destroy the many cracks in the walls, as well as hitting Pow Blocks to trigger chain reactions and defeat multiple enemies. The most common enemy are the Piranha Plants of various sizes. The Warp Pipe at the end of the course leads to the Flag Pole. Completing the course will open the path to World 5-7, Searchlight Sneak.

  • Green Star 1: Before entering the first Clear Pipe, grab the nearby Bob-omb and toss it at the Pow Block on the wall, which will get rid of the Purple Brick Blocks, revealing the first Green Star.
  • Green Star 2: After the checkpoint, you'll encounter a rabbit on a circular platform. Chase it and grab it to earn the second Green Star.
  • Green Star 3: When you reach the next Clear Pipe, hold down to go in the direction of the cloud, which will send you to a bonus area. In this area, light up all of the floor tiles to obtain the final Green Star.

After the second Green Star, use the Bob-omb to break open the crack in the wall. Head down that path to reach the Stamp.

[edit] World 5-6, Cakewalk Flip

Cakewalk Flip

Cakewalk Flip is the sixth course of World 5 in Super Mario 3D World. This course is of a desert theme that's filled with Flip Swap Platforms. In this game the platforms will flip over whenever the player jumps. There's a section where you must carefully make your way through the flip swap platforms, while avoiding the lasers by the Ring Burners, as well as falling into a bottomless pit. The Double Cherry makes another appearance in this course. Completing the course will open the path to World 5-7, Searchlight Sneak.

  • Green Star 1: You'll find the first Green Star after the first set of Flip Swap Platforms. It will be on the left most blue platform.
  • Green Star 2: After the checkpoint, avoid the two Ring Burners and defeat the Piranha Plant on top of the Warp Pipe. Head inside the Warp Pipe and in the next area, hit the P Switch, which will cause a green ball to drop. Maneuver that ball to the goal to reveal the second Green Star.
  • Green Star 3: Near the end, you'll see a Star Ring on the Flip Swap Platforms. After activating it, carefully and quickly collect the 8 Green Coins along the Flip Swap Platforms to earn the final Green Star.

Make it to the end of the course with at least one clone, using the Double Cherry powerup. Stand on the floor platform with the number '2' on it, and you'll be taken to the Stamp.

[edit] World 5-7, Searchlight Sneak

Searchlight Sneak

Searchlight Sneak is the seventh course of World 5 in Super Mario 3D World. This course takes place inside of a castle filled with Bullet Bills and searchlights. If you step into the searchlight, it will trigger the Bullet Bill launchers, causing the Bullet Bills to home towards you. Near the end, you must climb to the top, while avoiding the searchlights and Bullet Bills. Despite this course taking place in a castle, you don't battle any bosses. Clearing the course will open the path to World 5-Castle, King Ka-thunk's Castle.

  • Green Star 1: Near the third set of Bullet Bill launchers, use the springboard and take it to where the Green Star is located. Drop the springboard and use it to boost you up toward the star.
  • Green Star 2: You'll find a crack in the wall. Step into the searchlight, which will cause Bullet Bills to home onto you. Lure the Bullet Bills to the wall, destroying it and revealing a Mystery Box. In this challenge area, you must quickly climb the Bricks and grab the Green Star before the Bullet Bills destroy it.
  • Green Star 3: You'll find the final Green Star enclosed by Bricks. Simply lure a Bullet Bill to the Bricks, destroying them and making the Green Star accessible.

After the checkpoint, you'll see the Stamp in plain sight. Simply use the Brick Blocks below to reach it.

King Ka-Thunk's Castle

King Ka Thunk's Castle is the Castle course of World 5 in Super Mario 3D World. This Castle consists of invincible enemies known as Ka Thunks. They're mainly objects shaped spiky blue squares that move along a set path until falling into a bottomless pit. The other enemy that appears in this course are the Chargin' Chucks. Near the end, you must avoid the Ka Thunks that appear from the crevices of the wall, as well as the multiple Chargin Chucks. Afterwards, you'll encounter the boss known as King Ka Thunk.


King Ka-Thunk

King Ka Thunk is the boss of World 5 in Super Mario 3D World. King Ka Thunk is a small blue square with red feet and detached hands, and is attached to the Ka Thunk. The boss will move toward the player and once he approaches, the ground will give off a red glow, signaling where King Ka Thunk will fall onto. When the creature falls on the ground, its back will be expose, allowing you to jump on it. After damaging, King Ka Thunk will destroy two square platforms, and the process repeats. Hit King Ka Thunk three times to defeat it. Completing this will clear the World and free the Purple Sprixie Princess, creating the path to World 6.

  • Green Star 1: You'll see a Green Star Ring before 4 rotating platforms. Touch it and collect the 8 Green Coins on the 4 platforms to earn the first Green Star.
  • Green Star 2: The second Green Star is located in one of the Ka Thunks that appear from the crevice in the wall. When it appears, quickly grab it.
  • Green Star 3: The Super Bell is required. Before heading into the Warp Box leading to the boss, climb up the wall on the left to reach the final Green Star.

The Super Bell is required. In the same area as the second Green Star, climb up above the crevices in the wall to reach an alcove containing the Stamp.
