Wet-Dry World is the eleventh course of Super Mario 64. It is another water level in the game and the water level is controlled by the Seven Crystal Taps that can be found throughout the course. Depending on where Mario jumps into the painting before the course, will affect where the water level is at when he enters the course. There is a second part to the course and can be found underneath the main area of Wet-Dry World. This area is called the "Downtown Area". Mario can find the Metal Cap, Vanish Cap, and the Eight Red Coins in the downtown area. Mario will need to use the cannon to reach the entrance which is behind a cage.

The main area of Wet-Dry World will hold 4 of the Power Stars, while the other two are in the Downtown Area.

To gain access to this course, Mario will need to go to the second story of Princess Peach's Castle. The painting will have a picture of Skeeter on it. Mario can also find Amps, and Heave Hos in the course.

[edit] Star Missions

[edit] Star 1: Shocking Arrow Lifts!

For the first Power Star, Mario will need to turn around and run to the end of the long wooden platform. Stepping on the floor switch, will result in wooden platforms appearing and Mario will need to jump across and get to the large stone pedestal. There will be a Crystal tap on it and when Mario touches it, the water will rise. Mario should then see some mini elevators that will lead to a Yellow ! Block that contains the Power Star.

[edit] Star 2: Top O' The Town

The next mission will need Mario to go up a narrow walkway that will take him to the top of the large structure that can be seen in the corner at the start of the level. Once at the top of this structure, Mario will need to cross a narrow plank that will lead to a circular floating platform with a Amp in the middle. Next Mario will need to jump onto a spinning floating platform and then onto the platform with the ! Block which will contain the Power Star.

[edit] Star 3: Secrets in the Shallows & Sky

Mario will have to find the five secrets by standing on them or by manipulating certain objects. When a secret is activated, a number will appear, telling Mario how many he has collected so far. The first secret is located by the far left wall, Mario will have to push a red trimmed block out of the way and the first number will appear. The next one is in the ! Block that can be found near the first secret. It also contains 10 yellow Coins. The third secret is located near the Heave Ho. Mario will have to push the red trimmed block further into the wall. The next one is up another level and on top of the grate that contains a Power Star. It will be inside another ! Block that contains 10 coins. The last one is near the fourth secret on a platform surrounded by coins. It is inside another ! Block containing 10 coins.

The star will appear near the start of the level above the Star Marker.

[edit] Star 4: Express Elevators--Hurry Up!

Mario will need to head towards the Crystal Tap located underneath the gray path to lower the water level to the lowest point. Next he will have to make his way to the top of the tower until he reaches a Heave Ho that can launch him up to the second level and then have the next Heave Ho launch him up to the highest level. Making his way towards the cage, Mario will need to hit the ! Switch to make the wooden bricks appear and climb to the top where he is above the Power Star that is located in the cage. Going past the edge of the cage, the wooden platform will stick out and Mario can get on top of it and use it as an elevator. Mario will need to hop off the elevator before it gets to the bottom and run into the cage and wall jump onto the elevator and ride it back to the top while inside the cage. Once it reaches the top, Mario will be able to collect the Power Star.

[edit] Star 5: Go To Town For 8 Red Coins

To be able to do this mission, Mario will need to make his way over to the downtown area of the course. There are two possible ways to get to the underground area. One is to jump at the top of the painting before entering the level, so the water level is at its peak and Mario can jump over the grate. The other way is to use the cannon and blast his way over.

Once Mario has reached the downtown area, he will need to lower the water with the Crystal Tap. The Red Coins can be found on the top of high buildings in crates, this will require Mario to wall jump the walls to be able to break these boxes. The rest of them are in breakable boxes located around the city. With one being on the top of the church steeple.

Once all 8 Red Coins have been collected, the Power Star will appear under the small house that is between the high walls.

[edit] Star 6: Quick Race Through Downtown!

Mario will have to return to the downtown area of the course to collect this Power Star. Make sure the water level is at its lowest by hitting the Crystal Tap near the entrance to the downtown area. Grabbing the Invisible Cap that is near the church, Mario will have to run to the ! Switch near the downtown entrance behind a house and run towards the grate in the corner of the room. Mario will have to jump on the block before it disappears and get to the top to collect the Power Star.

Mario can also Wall Jump from inside the caged area to get up to the Power Star.

[edit] Collecting 100 Coins

There are a total of 152 coins in Wet-Dry World. Here are some hints to collect coins:

  • Collect all 8 Red Coins.
  • Hit the Blue Coin Switch and collect 6 Blue Coins.
  • ! Blocks with secrets contain 10 Coins each.
  • Lines of coins across the course.
  • Breakable boxes.
  • Circle of coins in the downtown area.
  • Defeating enemies(Skeeters, Chuckya).

[edit] Downtown

The Downtown area of Wet-Dry World can be a bit tricky to get to. There are two possible ways to get over the cage. One is getting the water level in the main area to its highest peak and simply jumping over the cage. The other way is using the cannon to shoot Mario over the cage. Mario will then need to dive under the water and go through the tunnel to get to the downtown area.

This area will hold two of the courses Power Stars. One will be collecting the 8 Red Coins and the other getting through the other caged area to collect the Power Star on the other side. These missions are the 5th and 6th missions of the course.

The Downtown area is basically a small town, it contains five buildings(Mario cannot get access into), plant life, a church or shrine that stands in front of what can be considered the "central park". The shrine has a small opening to where the 8 Red Coin Power Star will appear after collecting all the Red Coins in the area.
