|Venus Fire Trap|
A Venus Fire Trap as it appears in Super Mario 3D Land
Venus Fire Traps are a sub-species of Piranha Plant and is an enemy found in many Mario Bros. games. They are typically red with white spots but are also a blackish brown color with orange spots. The brown black colored one will make it's first appearance in Super Mario 3D Land. Venus Fire Traps vary greatly in size, they are typically medium sized, being about the same size as Mario. But they can also be larger or smaller based on the title of the game and circumstance. They are most commonly seen sticking their flower type heads out of Warp Pipe's to shoot fire balls at Mario as he progresses through a level. If Mario is hit by a fire ball he will be burned and take damage, he will also take damage if he runs into the plant it's self.
The first game appearance of the Venus Fire Trap was in Super Mario Bros. 3. Where it would stick it's head out of a Warp Pipe and shoot one or two fire balls at Mario. Mario can use a shell or a power up to defeat them.
Venus Fire Traps appear in both of these games uncommonly. A few large ones are fought at Tiny Huge Island where one punch from Mario would take them out. These are encountered when the island is in huge mode. However when the island is in tiny mode in the same area there will be one small Venus Fire Trap. This one can be defeated with a single punch or by jumping on it. One small one also appears during the level Bowser In The Sky which can be defeated in the same way.
In the DS game New Super Mario Bros., Venus Fire Traps return and play the same role as in Super Mario Bros. 3. They pop out of Warp Pipes and shoot fire balls at Mario, They can be defeated using shells or power ups.
Venus Fire Traps appear again in the Nintendo Wii game New Super Mario Bros. Wii where they are encountered quite commonly. Yoshi can use his tongue in this game to grab fire balls and keep them in his mouth, and shoot them back at enemies. He can hold on to only one fire ball at a time. There is also a very large Venus Fire Trap which appears uncommonly in the game and it behaves the same way as the smaller ones except it does not live in a Warp Pipe. There are is also another type of Venus Fire Trap that shoots more than one or two fire balls. Most of the time they shoot one. Mario can defeat them using Yoshi, shells, and power ups.
They also appear in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins and have identical roles to Super Mario Bros. 3.
Venus Fire Traps are set to appear in the upcoming title Super Mario 3D Land for the 3DS. In this game they have a different color for the first time being blackish with orange colored spots. Like typical they shoot fire balls at Mario and Mario can defeat them using shells and power ups.
