Tall, Tall Mountain is the twelfth course of Super Mario 64. The main feature of this course is the tall mountain that will contain several types of obstacles on the way to the top. There will be a hat stealing monkey called Ukiki, a blowing cloud called Fwoosh and most of the path around the mountain will be thin and near a cliff. The mountain will as well be surrounded by giant mushrooms with one containing a Power Star. The top of the mountain will have a flat surface and railing, and a waterfall will be next to it and falling down this waterfall, will take Mario to the start of the level.

The painting for Tall,Tall Mountain, can be found on the second story of Princess Peach's Castle. It will show a piece of the mountain and the mushrooms around it.

[edit] Star Missions

[edit] Star 1: Scale the Mountain

Mario will have to scale the mountain to collect the first Power Star, much like the mission title states. He will begin by going to the right of the waterfall and across two large gaps that can be jumped with the Long Jump. If he misses the first jump, he will fall to the lower part of the mountain and can just jump back up. If he falls into the second gap, he will die. Mario will run along the edge of the mountain located near the platforms on his left until he finds a fork-in-the road containing Monty Moles.

  • The first way is Mario can climb up the wall and then go to the right once he has made it to the top and continue his way up the side of the mountain. Sooner, or later he will end up near some Goombas in a grassy area and will meet up with the end of the other path of the fork-in-the-road.
  • The second way is Mario will keep going straight and encounter a few enemies such as Bob-ombs. He will have to cross a plank leading to Ukiki the monkey, he can steal his hat if Mario picks him up. After this Mario will have to cross a log and make it roll to the next area. Then go up the perimeter of the mountain and he will reach the grassy area with the Goombas.

Mario will have to travel more around the edge of the mountain before long jumping across the waterfall and landing on a thin walkway. Once he does that, he will just have to make his way up and collect the Power Star.

[edit] Star 2: Mystery of the Monkey Cage

Mario will have to scale to the top mountain once more for this mission, he will need to find Ukiki the monkey. Mario will have to catch Ukiki, and when asked, let him go. Mario will then have to follow Ukiki to a cage with a star in it. Ukiki will break the cage, and the star will fall down to where the other Ukiki can be found.

[edit] Star 3: Scary 'Shrooms, Red Coins

Mario will have to find the mushroom platform area that is located close to the beginning of the stage and carefully collect the red coins there. Not all of the coins are on the mushrooms, he will need to trek further into the course to collect the others. The other Red Coins will be located on the small platforms on the wall near the Monty Moles. They will be scattered along the wall. Once all 8 Red Coins are collected, the Power Star will appear on the Star Marker on the giant mushroom close to the Monty Moles.

[edit] Star 4: Mysterious Mountainside

Mario will have to find the entrance to a secret slide to collect this Power Star. The entrance is located near the top of the mountain close to where the Fwoosh is. The wall is a bit lighter than the rest of the mountain and if Mario walks up to the wall, it may move a little. Jumping into it will gain him access to the slide.

Mario will find himself in a building with a large slide. This slide will be more difficult than the one in The Princess's Secret Slide. It has many curves and jumps, there is also a fork-in-the-road that will kill Mario if he goes the wrong way. At the end Mario will go through a hole that will lead him to the star that is located behind a mesh on the side of the mountain.

[edit] Star 5: Breathtaking View From Bridge

For this Power Star, Mario will need to make his way up the mountain to where the Fwoosh is located. Mario will need to jump into the waterfall, or use the ! Switch that is farther up the mountainside to create some wooden platforms into the falls. He will need to run quickly before the platforms disappear and collect the Power Star.

[edit] Star 6: Blast to the Lonely Mushroom

This star is located on a large mushroom that is away from the mushroom. It can be accessed by 3 ways, such as long jumping from the top of the mountain onto the mushroom, jumping on a Fly Guy and twirling over to the mushroom. Or by taking the cannon. The cannon is located under the island and can be reached by a secret portal on one of the small mushroom platforms. This will take Mario underneath the island and he will have to cross a thin walkway to the cannon. Mario will need to carefully to collect the Power Star while in midair.

The Pink Bob-omb can be found on a cliff close to the Ukiki that will try and steal Mario's hat.
