|First Appearance||New Super Mario Bros. U|
|Power||Flying Squirrel Mario|
The Super Acorn is a new power-up item that is first featured in New Super Mario Bros. U for the Nintendo Wii U. When Mario obtains the power-up from a question mark block, he transform into Flying Squirrel Mario, giving him the ability to latch onto walls and other solid objects and to float down to the ground. This allows him to collect trails of various objects, such as the coins and Star Coins seen in the trailer released during Nintendo's E3 2012 conference.
Mario is not the only character in the game that is able to use the Squirrel Acorn. Luigi was featured in a trailer using it while Blue Toad and Yellow Toad have been seen using it in post-E3 images.
It was also confirmed during the trailer that either an entire level or a large portion of a level will be centered around this upgrade. It showed Flying Squirrel Mario and Luigi gliding down between large blocks while collecting coins and Star Coins and dodging enemies that were flying around in their path. It is unknown if this is a full level or not, but as there are three Star Coins to be collected, it is speculated to be an entire level.
