Scuttle Bugs are a type of spider like enemy found in Mario titles. They have black and yellow striped bodies and four legs with suction cups for feet, they appear this way up until Super Mario Galaxy where their color is largely brown. Their debut appearance was in Super Mario 64 and have appeared since than in several other Mario games the latest being Super Mario Galaxy2.
Scuttle Bugs first appearance was in Super Mario 64 for the Nintendo 64. Their roles are to run into Mario to give him damage, Mario can defeat them by stomping them or punching them. In this game they have two very large bulging eyes and a round body thats reddish colored. They later appeared in the remake of the game Super Mario 64 DS for the Nintendo DS. Their roles are exactly the same and can be defeated by stomping them or punching them. In this game they have their more modern colors being the black and yellow stripes, they also have a black head.
Scuttle Bugs appear with the black and yellow stripes in New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo DS. Again their roles here are to run into Mario, they can be defeated by jumping on them or using a shell or power up. In this game they are found pretty often hanging from webbing, in one level they drop into the screen from the top of it.
Scuttle Bugs will make their most modern appearance in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 games for the Nintendo Wii. Their actions and looks are exactly the same in both games. In these games they have more of a spider like drab brown color with blackish strips. This is a big color contrast to their bright yellow and black before. There are two types of them in these games, one type being the grounded one and the other hanging from webbing. The one on the ground stands in place and will jump often, in Super Mario Galaxy Mario can defeat this by jumping on it or spinning it with his spin move. It can be defeated the same way in Super Galaxy 2 except Yoshi can also eat it. In both games players can shoot it with a Star Bit to stun it. The ones that hang from the web can be stunned by shooting them with Star Bits, by spinning them, or by hitting them with Yoshi's tongue. After they are stunned Mario can run into them to kick them which will defeat them. If Mario is hit by ether he will take damage.
The Scuttle Bug is set to appear in New Super Mario Bros. 2. Seen in a screenshot for the game, it looks like they will hang off the webs like they have in previous appearances. Their look has changed a little as they will be yellow with two purple stripes and heads, with white pincers.
Scuttle Bugs have appeared very little in Mario Party games being in both Mario Party DS and Mario Party 7. They appear in one mini-game from each being Spider Stomp from Mario Party 7 and Crazy Crosshairs from Mario Party DS.
