Red Coins are a type of coin that appears with Yellow Coin in the Mario series. Red Coins usually serve as important items to collect in levels in games.

[edit] Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
They would first appear in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and would hide behind regular coins. They have a slight red tint to them to stick out from the gold coins. The only way to find out which are red coins, is to collect them or to use the Mangnifying Glass. 20 Red Coins can be found in each level and will add a point to Yoshi's score at the end of the level after being collected.

They would appear in Super Mario Bros. Deluxe and would have to be collected in order to complete a mission.

Red Coins appear in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS. They would be worth two coins and collecting eight Red Coins in one level will make a Power Star appear over the Star Marker in the level. In Super Mario 64 DS, Bob-omb Buddies are able to detect where red coins are.

Red Rings would appear in New Super Mario Bros.. It would appear in several levels and when walked through, eight Red Coins will appear for a short period of time. If all coins are collected, a power-up or a 1-Up Mushroom will appear.

They would return in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Keeping the same function as they did in New Super Mario Bros., they would give the player-up a power-up when all coins are collected. If Mario is small Mario, then they will be given the Fire Flowerinstead of a Mushroom.

Red Coins would return in Super Mario 3D Land after Mario touches a Red Ring. He will need to then collect the five red coins before they disappear to collect a 1-Up Mushroom or a power-up.

Red Coins appear in New Super Mario Bros. 2. Mario will have to collect a total of eight red coins on each level to receive a power-up or a 1-Up Mushroom, Mario will have to hit a Red Ring to have the red coins follow a predetermined path.

Under the name 10 Coins, Red Coins would appear in Mario Hoops 3-on-3 in ? Panels. They can be found after the player makes the combo of dribbling of acquiring of coins without being interrupted.
[edit] Yoshi's Island DS
Red Coins would work the same as they did in the first Yoshi's Island in Yoshi's Island DS. Though the Magnifying Lens would not appear in the game. The player would get a better score after completing a level.

In Mario Party DS, Red Coins would replace Coin Bags in bonus mini-games. They are worth five Coins and can be obtained the same way as Coin Bags.
