Racing Courses (MarioKart64)
From Mario - Wiki on Neoseeker
Mario Kart 64 features a large amount of tracks, each unique in their own way.
Banshee Boardwalk
As the title implies, you are on a boardwalk, filled with ghosts. As you go along the boardwalk, there will be some parts without rails and some holes in the wooded track, which all lead to a castle. Once inside, you have to dodge the bats, and escape out the backdoor. After a few more turns you will find yourself back at the finish.
Bowser's Castle
This castle starts you off on the walkway up to it, past the moat and the garden entrance, inside where thwomps are waiting to smash an oblivious racer. As you throughout the many rooms in the castle, thwomps are in every one of them, and after that this course features a bridge with lava below. Then you must race up a spiral staircase and ramp off to the walkway you started on.
Choco Mountain
A mountain filled with brown colored scenary and road. You must make your way through the mountain, going up and down through the ramps, skidding around the sharp turns, and dodging the falling choco balls at one point, where if you are hit, you are flattened.
DK's Jungle Parkway
Its a jungle all the way through this course. If you go off the road and onto the grass, you will be pelted with coconuts until you get back on the road again. There is a huge jumps and sharp turns as well as a bridge leading to a cave at the end.
Frappe Snowland
A winter-wonderland, Frappe Snowland is packed with snow. A few small gimmicks along the way include exploding snowman, as well as a bridge that if you fall off, you will freeze. There are a lot of turns in this track, and not too many items so you will have to use them wisely.
Kalimari Desert
In this desert themed course, you must drive throughout the track in the hot sun, but mostly following a railroad track. You can ride the rails through part of the course, but mostly you won't need to. There are a lot of turns as well as signs along the course, featuring a certain character or item from the Mario world.
Koopa Troopa Beach
As first beach course in the game, it holds up to its expectations. You start off enjoying the coast as well as the rocky scenary, only to come to a small cove with ramps and items so you can battle it out. There are a lot of ramps in this course, as well as item boxes so you can choose wisely. There are also two short-cuts you can take to shave off time.
Luigi Raceway
A traditional raceway, where you must simply race around the track as fast as you can. While not many gimmicks accompany this course, it will test your speed and how well you handle your cart a lot better than almost any other course.
Mario Raceway
Another traditional, life-like raceway. As the objective was in Luigi's Raceway, it goes the same for Mario's. No real gimmicks, just a track to test your racing skills on by racing on different terrain from grass to sand.
Moo Moo Farm
A simple farm that you must keep within the boundaries of, in this case, lumpy and rocky dirt paths. As you go up and down, around and around through this course, there is only one thing you need to watch out for, golphers. There are two huge golpher patches where golpher randomly pop up through holes. You can take a chance and go through them, or take the safe way and go around.
Rainbow Road
The longest course in the game, you must race through a road colored rainbow. There are loose chainchomps along the way that will slow you down if you run into them. There are also a lot of items to catch up to the leader, and slow down other racers with.
Royal Raceway
The last of the raceways, Royal Raceway features some of the best turns that it is a must for you to slow done less you want to take a dip in the water always around the turns. There are also item boxes here and there, and huge jump that runs by Princess Peach's castle from Super Mario 64.
Sherbert Land
Like Frappe Snowland, but with less snow, and more ice. You start off on thin ice with no rails, trying to gain a small lead while dodging penguins. Once you get past them there is an ice cavern you will make your way through only to find yourself back on the ice and one turn away from the finish.
Toad's Turnpike
Toad's Turnpike, an interstate of adventure. You must go throughout the course dodging traffic such as school buses, cars, and semis to get to the finish first. There aren't many item boxes other than the ones in the small open areas on the sides of the road.
Wario Stadium
A Supercross themed track, Wario Stadium is ideal for dirtbikes. There are plenty of nice jumps to put you ahead of the rest of the competition and even a "whoops" section, as well as item boxes galore to foil other racers attempts to gain the lead.
Yoshi Valley
The most confusing course in the game, when you start out going down the grassy hill, you will notice six possible ways to go. It is up to you to pick the quickest one. Once you are out, you will find yourself taking hairpin turns, leading to a giant spinning Yoshi Egg that you have to dodge, and continue on to the finish.
