Pokey is a rather strange character who makes appearances in many Mario titles to date including spin-off titles. He is a very tall character who is built up in segments, he typically always appears as an antagonist in the classic Mario titles such as Super Mario 64, but he also plays other minor roles in spin-off games. It is not sure what species Pokey may be, he may be some type of desert plant because he is spiny like a cactus, and there is a flower on his head. This flower can often be used to trick players into thinking he is not around because the flower will be seen on the ground but not him, but when you get close enough he will pop out of the sand. He can also appear in different sizes and heights. He typically has a smiley face but this differs depending on games.
 Game History
 Super Mario Series
In this game Pokey`s appeared as green, and could be defeated when Mario threw stuff at him. He moved back and forth in an effort to run into Mario.
He also made an appearance in the Super Mario World series where his roles again were pretty much the same, to run into Mario and cause him to lose lives. He could be defeated in this game by throwing shells at him, or Yoshi could eat his body segments one at a time.
Pokey`s appearance in Super Mario 64 was the more classic Pokey appearance with the spiny body segments that are a tan color. He appeared in only one level in this game shifting sand land, where he would poke around and try to run into Mario. Every time Mario would destroy the lowest body segment he would get one shorter until his head is all that remains, once this is destroyed Pokey will be defeated.
Pokey also made a big appearance in the classic 3D, game cube title, Super Mario Sunshine. In this game he does not move around put stays put in the ground as a flower until Mario gets close enough, he than pops out and tries to attack Mario. After he is out of the ground he also stays in one spot and attacks Mario quit differently than previous titles, when Mario gets close enough he brings his whole body down and smashes the ground with his head. In doing this he tries to get Mario and cause him to lose health. He can be defeated by jumping on his head while he is flat on the ground, it can also work while he is standing but is tougher. He appears smaller in this game as well than in other titles.
 Super Mario Galaxy Series
He also made an appearance in both Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. His roles in these games are very similar to the ones he played in Super Mario Sunshine. In these games however he comes in both a small and large size, the small size seen in Super Mario Galaxy is red colored and slides along attempting to crash into Mario, it can be defeated by spinning each body segment at a time and than jumping on the head. He may also try to get Mario with the head bash. There is also a giant Pokey that Mario cannot defeat on his own, and must kick a watermelon at it for the body segments to disappear. The head will than come down and land up side down for Mario to than jump on. Launch Star`s appear when these big Pokey`s are defeated, which help you to progress. In Super Mario Galaxy 2, he also appears as just a head as in Super Mario Sunshine. He can be jumped on to be defeated.
In New Super Mario Bros. he plays a very similar role as the other side scrolling titles, he roams back and forth trying to crash into Mario. He can be defeated by destroying each of his body segments with fire balls when you are Fire Mario, or you can also use a shell.
His roles in this game are almost the same as New Super Mario Bros. DS, except he can also be defeated using Yoshi who can eat the body segments, or by using an ice flower which allows Mario to freeze him with ice balls. The fire balls also get him in the same way as the previous title.
Pokey's appear in Super Mario 3D Land. They will appear in at least a couple desert levels. They appear very similar to how they look in New Super Mario Bros. Wii except they are shorter. Other than that they have the same classic Pokey look to them with their smiley face, spines, and body segments. It is confirmed that Mario can defeat them one segment at a time while Boomerang Mario. It is also likely that he can do the same with fire balls while Fire Mario
Pokeys appear in New Super Mario Bros. 2 where they look they same as they do in Super Mario 3D Land. If Mario gets hit he will take damage, or lose a life. They can be defeated using shells, or power ups such as the Fire Flower.
Pokeys will be appearing in New Super Mario Bros. U. They can be found on desert levels of the game.
 Mario Kart Series
He also makes some appearances in certain tracks in the Mario Kart series, these tracks are the desert tracks. Giant Pokey`s stand in the track and move back and forth waiting for karts to drive into him, if he hits your kart you will flip over, or spin out.
 Mario Party Series
He also appears in the Mario Party Series, ether as a board decal such as in Mario Party 7, or part of mini games. Some mini-games in the series consist of defeating Pokey or Pokey`s within the time limits. He also may have played other very minor roles.
