[edit] Super Mario Bros. 3

It would first appear in Super Mario Bros. 3, it would allow Mario or Luigi to fly for an entire level in their Raccoon forms. If they are hit while flying, they will lose the power-up and plummet to the ground. After the level has finished, they will return to their basic Super Leaf abilities.

When used on the map screen, the letter "P" will shown in the sprite and indicate they have the P-Wing ability. The "P" will be gone after they return from a level to indicate they no longer have the ability.

They can be found in chests left behind after defeating certain Hammer Bros. enemies on the map screen and also found in secret white Toad Houses(blue in the remakes) that are only available after collecting a certain amount of coins in a certain level of the world. They can also be found in odd-numbered world Toad Houses, while the even number ones have Anchors.
