Moneybags as it appears in Super Mario 64 DS
Moneybags as the name implies is a moneybag who is alive, it has eyes, feet and typically jumps around. It is a medium sized character and is about the same size as Mario
Super Mario 64 is the first title in which Moneybags appeared. It disguises it's self as a single coin, and than appears when Mario gets close enough. After it appears it starts jumping around as it runs from Mario. If the player manages to punch or jump on it, it will release many coins. It can hurt Mario if he crashes into it. The only level in which he appears is Snowman's Land
He appears again and plays the same role as before in the remake Super Mario 64 DS. His role is identical to Super Mario 64.
Moneybags appears for the first time in a 2D Mario title for the DS, New Super Mario Bros. In this game he appears rarely and jumps ahead of the player and can be very hard to catch. The best way to defeat him is using fire balls which can be used after Mario obtains a Fire Flower. Every time moneybags takes a hit it will release one coin. After it is defeated it will give Mario a 1-UP.
A character very similar to Moneybags is encountered in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2' but does appear more often then in the previous games. Instead of giving coins when defeated it gives star bits. It travels under ground most of the time and will only pop up when Mario stands still, he can than defeat it with a shell.
Moneybags would appear in Super Mario 3D Land but be known as Coin Coffers. They have a lighter green color and have a look of a frog's head.
