This power up appears in both New Super Mario Bros. and New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
 Game History
There would be a live-action segment called "All Steamed Up" where Mario would enter the Steam-O-Matic to make sure it was full repair. While inside, Sgt. Slaughter would show up and turn the machine to full power. Mario would escape but be shrunk due to the exposure to the steam.
Whenever a player got used the Thunderbolt item in the Mario Kart Series, every player would shrink minus the player who used the item. Other electrical hazards would also shrink the player. There would be an item in Mario Kart Arcade GP and Mario Kart wi called the Thunder Cloud where it would speed up a player as it floats over them before it would shrink them. Super Mario Kart would have a Poison Mushroom that is used by Peach and Toad when they are computers and can shrink players who rush into them. Players could also be shrunk when they are flattened by normal size players in Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64 and Mario Kart 7.
There are several minigames throughout the Mario Party Series that would see Mario and company shrink.
This would mark the first appearance of the Mini Mushroom and would introduce the form known as Mini Mario. When they are in this form, they can only roll a 1-5. Players can obtain an item that will turn them into their mini form called the Super Mini Mushroom and they can roll two 1-5 blocks. They can also go through gates and play Mini Mini-Games.

Bowser would trap Mario and his friends in a cage and shrink them with his Minimizer in Mario Party DS. He would do this after inviting them over to his house for an apology feast.
Mario would be able to purchase a Mini Mushroom for ten coins in Mario Pinball Land. When the item is used, Mario will be mini and can get into entrances to beehives or igloos to earn more Power Stars.
Mini-Mario would be one of the Bros. Action in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. It could be taught to Luigi in Chateau de Chucklehuck. For this form to happen, Luigi would need to stand behind Mario and hit him with his hammer. This will shrink Mario to half of his normal height and he will be able to fit through gaps that would be inaccessible in his regular form. Also when Mario is in Beanbean Castle Town, there will be a small exclamation point that appears above his head to notify he is close to a Beanstone. A larger exclamation mark will appear when he is directly above it. For Mario to return to regular size, he will have to meet up with Luigi and be hit by the hammer once more or he can just enter a battle. If Luigi tries to do a High Jump on Mini-Mario and Mario jumps when Luigi is directly above him, he will earn a coin for each time Luigi is hit. But Luigi will lose one HP each time.
Baby Mario and Baby Luigi would be small enough to fit into those small gaps that Mini Mario could go through in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. Additionally, the Bros. Ball would make Mario and Luigi small enough to fit through the gaps as well.
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story would see the Mario Bros. obtain their hammers during the game and allow Luigi to shrink Mario like it did in Superstar Saga.
