Metal Mario first appeared in Super Mario 64. Mario could transform into Metal Mario by placing a special metal cap on his head. The switch to activate the Metal Mario cap was hidden in a secret room in Hazy Maze Cave
Metal Mario later appeared as a playable character in Mario Golf, and the metal cap was used as an item in the Super Smash Bros series. It allowed the player to become heavier, but made them jump lower.
