Mario Party 9 is an upcoming video game for the Nintendo Wii. It was announced at E3 2011 and it will be the twelfth installment in the Mario Party Series. It is the first Mario Party game since 2007's Mario Party DS, making it the longest gap between games to date. Unlike past Mario Party games, this one will feature boards based on the main series Mario games. First seen in Mario Party Advance, this game will feature a car for all players to move in at once.

[edit] Gameplay
Returning from Mario Party Advance, players will move all at once in a car. They will play together in overcoming obstacles, boss battles, and collect Mini Stars that were stolen from Bowser and his lackeys. Players will take turns being the Captain of the vehicle by hitting Dice Blocks to move the car forward. The car will help to keep everyone involved in on the action. Unique Captain events can be found on every stage and give the players new ways to change the shape of the game. Players can earn Party Points every time they play to unlock new features and special items.
Players will see the introduction of boss battles crashing the party to challenge the players to defeat a common enemy. At the end of each stage, the players will need to join together to defeat classic foes like Bowser or King Boo while playing to boost their own scores.
Each themed stage will have a destination point. Players can take different paths along the way so each game will not be the same way. Players will encounter a variety of classic elements from past Mario titles in these new environments. Eighty new minigames will be introduced in the game, as well as 2 vs. 1 minigames against Bowser Jr., with one looking like a boss battle from New Super Mario Bros. Wii, making pizza or racing snowmobiles.
New minigame modes allow players to enjoy the action in smaller chunks of time when players don't have enough time to play through an entire stage. Players can improve their skills with any minigame in the Free Play mode or can try the Extras mode that will have Goomba Bowling and a puzzle-based Castle clearout.
