Mario Bros. was an arcade game made by Nintendo. It was released in the year 1983 and was later bought or ported to many home systems.

This game was basically a spin-off from the Donkey Kong series. This game was the first appearance of the name Mario and his brother, Luigi, alone in a game. This character known as Mario was a carpenter in the Donkey Kong series, but in this first game he became a plumber who exterminated pests appearing from pipes.

Game-play

You play as Mario or Luigi and you must defeat all enemies or pests coming out from the pipes located at the edges of your screen. You must first hit the enemies from below, then you touch then to kick the enemies out of the screen and for good. But if you leave the pest upside down for too long, they get back up and be faster than before. Coins also come out of the pipes hit them from below to collect them and earn extra player points.

The enemies included:
-Shellcreeper: A turtle-like enemy that simply walks around. They take one hit to flip.
-Sidestepper: Crab-like enemies that are slightly faster than Shellcreepers. They take two hits to flip.
-Fighter Fly: Fly-like enemies that hop around on platforms. They can only be hit from below when they're touching the floor.
-Freezee: A block of ice that slides around, until it stops on a random platform and freezes it.

Kaettekita Mario Bros. means The Return of Mario Bros. in Japanese. This game was a revision of the Mario Bros. game released November 30, 1988. The game featured a few revisions as well as some new features.

New Features

This revision featured a new move; you could pick up the upside down shell of the Shellcreepers and Sidesteppers and throw them at your opponent if you were playing the versus game. It also featured a new POW block to shake things up with the pests or your opponent. The game also introduced Luigi as your help in-game in the role of plumber brothers.
