Lethal Lava Land is the seventh course in Super Mario 64. The course is filled with lava and has a volcano in the middle of the course which Mario can enter to collect a few of the Power Stars. There is several traps in the course, more than the player has seen in past courses.
If Mario gets pushed into the lava, it will not automatically kill him. It will take a chunk of health off as it burns his backside. If Mario hits the lava three times in a row, then he will lose a life. There is no bottomless pits for Mario to fall off.
In this level, Mario will experience a sliding puzzle that forms a picture of Bowser, this puzzle will also have one of the Power Stars. There is several tilting platforms in the course that can dip Mario into the lava, and a rolling log that Mario will need to get across for another star. And then there is the volcano in the center of the stage, where Mario can venture into for more to explore.
To find the location of the painting, the player will need to go to the basement of Princess Peach's Castle and go near where Hazy Maze Cave was. There is no star requirements for this course. The painting is of a fireball with an eerie face. The warp in the level can be found underneath Mr. I.
Inside the course, the enemies will mainly consist of Bullies. The boss of the course is Big Bully which you will encounter in a couple of the missions. To defeat these enemies, Mario will need to push them into the lava. He will only get a coin for his trouble. If Mario does not push them into the lava, then they will try to push Mario into the lava.
Star 1: Boil The Big Bully
Once Mario begins the level, he will need to head towards the north side of the stage. He will need to travel across bridges, get pass firebars and go past the Bowser puzzle. Once Mario sees the large bully on a square platform, he will need to use a variety of attacks to try and knock the Big Bully off the platform. Once the Big Bully has been pushed into the lava, the Power Star will appear on top of another platform and a set of steps will appear as well to get to the star. Staying on these steps for to long will cause for them to break and Mario to fall into the lava.
 Star 2: Bully The Bullies
To collect the second Power Star of Lethal Lava Land, Mario should return to where he fought the Big Bully in the first mission. To the right of the platform, there will be a moving platform that Mario will need to travel to the next platform. On that platform there are three Bullies that Mario will need to defeat. Punching or kicking will do the best to knock them off of the platform. Once defeated, the Big Bully will make his return and fight Mario. Doing the same thing as he did with the bullies, Mario will need to push this Big Bully off as well. Once that has completed, the Power Star will appear in the center of the platform.
 Star 3: 8-Coin Puzzle With 15 Pieces
Mario will need to head towards where the Mr. I that can be seen from the start of the level. Once Mario has reached there, he should continue left until the sinking platform with the lava. Then he should head towards the platforms that have a picture of Bowser on it. All 8 Red Coins are on this puzzle so this will be an easy 8 Red Coin mission. The platforms do move, so be careful not to fall because of one. Once all 8 Red Coins have been collected, the Power Star will appear on the Star Marker.
 Star 4: Red-Hot Log Rolling
Mario will have to travel to the right of the volcano to be able to collect the 4th Power Star of Lethal Lava Land. There will be a platform with two Bullies on it and Mario will have to get on the moving platform, avoiding the flames shooting out of the lava. Once at the end, he will be near a large log that he will have to stand on, which causes it to spin. Keeping his balance, Mario will have to get to the other side and turn left across the narrow pathway to grab the Power Star.
Star 5: Hot-Foot-It Into the Volcano
As the title for the Star says, Mario will need to make his way into the volcano that is in the center of the course. Once inside, Mario will see several black islands, which he will have to cross until he gets to the walkway that follows the perimeter of the volcano's interior. Mario will come across Bullies that will try to push him off the ledge and into the lava, possibly to Mario's death. There will also be some walls that will try and crush Mario by crushing him. Mario will also have to go through some floating platforms that will lead him to the Power Star. Mario will need to do this carefully, or else he will have to start it all over from the bottom of the volcano. Once he's at the end, the Power Star will be waiting at the end of the walkway.

He will have to jump onto the elevator and he will go up and need to jump onto another platform and ride it. The platform will fall eventually and Mario will need to jump onto the platform to his left.
