Invincible Mario is the form that Mario and Luigi assume after they collect the Star. While in this state, they will be temporary invincible for a few seconds. They will be able to defeat an enemy by simply touching them though this will not protect them from falling into a pit, lava, or losing a life when time runs out. Invincible Mario would first appear in Super Mario Bros. alongside the Star. It can be depicted when Mario is flashing or color-changing in later games. When time runs out for the Invincible Mario form, Mario will retain the form he was in before he used the star. Wario can also become an invincible and much faster in Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3.
In the Mario Kart Series, all of the drivers can become invincible by collecting and using the Star. It will allow them to make other drivers slide or tumble when they are hit and makes the player drive faster. In Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, there is a similar form called Rainbow Mario.
Some blocks in Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, New Super Mario Bros. and New Super Mario Bros. Wii, there are ? Blocks that will contain Starmans if Mario or Luigi are already in the Invincible form. It will allow players to string together a longer period of invincibility time.
Beginning in Super Mario World, Invincible Mario would allow the player to get extra lives after defeating eight or more enemies while in this form, and allow more lives for each enemy that is defeated until the Star wears off. In Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, Wario will get 11 hearts for each enemy that is defeated.
