Elevate For 8 Red Coins
Hazy Maze Cave is the sixth course in Super Mario 64. It is the first cave world in the game. It is located in the basement of Princess Peach's Castle. It has many hidden ledges, nooks, crannies and alcoves and Mario can easily fall into one of the many bottomless pits found in the course. It as well has a underground lake with a large and friendly sea monster called Dorrie. When exploring the course, you can also see what the course looks like by one of the maps hanging on the wall.
The Hazy Maze located inside the course is a labyrinth with passages full of highly toxic gas. It will slowly deplete Mario's health when he is in the gas and will suffocate if he runs out of health. The Hazy Mave is also home to several Snifits, Monty Moles, Scuttle Bugs and Swoopers. There is higher ground inside the Hazy Maze to help Mario get out of the toxic gas and get some fresh air. There is a Metal Box inside the Maze that will help Mario out as the gas will not effect Mario when he is wearing the cap. There will also be several escape routes that are marked on the map to help out the player. When collecting a certain star, Mario will need to go to that escape route.
Inside the course, you can also find the Cavern of the Metal Cap course, which will take you to the course where you can obtain the Metal Cap. To find the entrance to the course, Mario will need to access a door near the underground lake. Inside this course, you can also collect a Power Star by collecting the '8 Red Coins.
You will not need to jump through a painting to gain access to this level but instead jump in a pool of liquid metal.
 Star 1: Swimming Beast In The Cavern
For the first Power Star of the course, Mario will need to travel deep into the cave and find the underground lake, where the sea monster Dorrie lives. When Mario first begins the mission, he will need to go to the left and cross the bottomless pit with a long-jump. Next he will have to make his way around the room and go up the hill where the rolling rocks are coming from. He will find a door with an elevator that leads him down the underground lake. Once near the lake, Mario will spot Dorrie. He will be able to get on Dorrie's back to lead him to the isle in the middle of the lake. Making a Ground Pound on Dorrie's back will make the sea monster lower its head so Mario can stand on its head so Mario can jump onto the island and get the Power Star.
 Star 2: Elevate For 8 Red Coins
This mission will require Mario to collect the 8 Red Coins.
When Mario starts the level, he will need to go down the right corridor. He will need to avoid the lap pits before reaching the door. Once in the next room, Mario will slide down the pole into the underground plaza. If Mario goes to one side of the room, there will be a staircase that leads to a floating platform. On this platform, there is four arrow switches on it. When Mario steps on one, the platform will move in the direction that the switch pointed. All of the 8 Red Coins are collected by this platform by moving around.
Once all 8 Red Coins are collected, the Star will appear on the Star Marker in the middle of the room.
 Star 3: Metal-Head Mario Can Move!
Mario will need to go to the underground lake once more, avoiding the rolling rocks in the hall and going down the elevator. Once Mario is at the bottom from the elevator, there will be a Metal Box right near Mario. Mario will need to wear this and make his way down the slope quickly to hit the ! Switch that is underwater. Once the switch is hit, it will open the crate doors and allow access to the door behind it. Mario can find the Power Star at the end of the chamber by using the Long-Jump to get pass the bottomless pits on the ground.
There is also another way to hit the ! Switch but it is time consuming and may cause some stress. Simply doing a Ground Pound from the edge into the water may get Mario to hit the switch. But using the Metal Cap, is a much easier method.
For the Fourth Power Star, Mario will need to venture into the Hazy Maze. Going down the right corridor from the start, Mario will make his way into the plaza area. Going to the left, there will be a door that Mario will need to go through and then a hole to jump through. Once down there, Mario will be in the Hazy Maze. The yellow gas will slowly deplete Mario's health the longer he stays in the gas. Turning into Metal Mario will prevent him from losing any health while navigating through the Toxic Maze. Small holes in some stretches of the labyrinth can be tricky to jump and reach the right door to get out of the maze. Once Mario has gotten out of the maze, he will travel up an elevator that will lead him to the Power Star.
 Star 5:A-Maze-Ing Emergency Exit
For this Power Star, Mario will need to venture back into the toxic maze. He will need to head towards the first door on the left that will lead to a hallway with an elevator. Once the elevator reaches the top, Mario will need to go through the door which leads him to the room of the rolling boulders and bottomless pit in the middle. Mario will need to grab the metal bars from above and head towards the star.
 Star 6: Watch For Rolling Rocks
For the Sixth Power Star, Mario will need to make his way to the room of the rolling rocks and navigate his way past the rocks. Before reaching the door, the player should wall jump between the walls and jump onto one of the alcoves. The alcove on the right will contain the Power Star.
 Collecting 100 Coins
Collecting 100 Coins in Hazy Maze Cave is relatively easy to do. There are a total of 139 coins in the course. Here are some hints to collect coins:
- 8 Red Coins
- 9 Blue Coins(Two from Mr. I, 5 in Hazy Maze)
- Ring of Coins around blocks or leading to the Hazy Maze.
- Defeating Enemies.
- Multiple Line of Coins.
