Firebars are rotating rods that are made up of fireballs that first appeared in Super Mario Bros.. They would appear in several titles in the Mario series in fortresses. They act as dangerous obstacles that Mario will need to avoid so that he can reach the end of the level.

[edit] Super Mario Bros.

Firebars would first debut in Super Mario Bros.. They are just rotating fire rods that rotate around a block in a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction. If Mario or Luigi comes into contact with the fire, they will lose their form or lose a life. They would be replaced in later games by enemies like Roto-Discs and Ball 'N' Chains.

[edit] Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels

They would appear again in Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels. They would spin around in similar patterns as before. In some castles, there would be large firebars that appear with 14 Fireballs.

They would only appear in one level in Super Mario 64. Appearing on the Lethal Lava Land course, they would not deviate from past titles.

[edit] New Super Mario Bros.

Firebars would be first seen in World 6-4 in New Super Mario Bros. and then return for the second tower of World 8 and then again in Bowser's Castle.

In Super Mario Galaxy they would appear in the Sling Pod Galaxy, Toy Time Galaxy, Bowser's Star Reactor, and Bowser's Galaxy Reactor. They would used as obstacles for each Galaxy.

They would only appear in the castle and tower in World 8 of New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

In Super Mario Galaxy 2, they would serve as obstacles once more. Mainly appearing in Bowser Jr.'s Fiery Flotilla, Bowser's Gravity Gauntlet, Slipsand Galaxy, and Bowser's Galaxy Generator. They would also be used during the boss battle of Bowser Jr.'s Boomsday Bunker in Bowser Jr.'s Boom Bunker.

They would appear in Paper Mario in the Koopa Bros. Fortress and Mt. Lavalava. They would swing sideways or clockwise and counter-clockwise. If Mario touches one, he'll lose one HP, but if his partner touches one, nothing happens. If Mario jumps over one, it will make the Firebar move faster. Doing this ten times, will make it vanish and drop many coins. This would mark the first time a Firebar could be destroyed.

[edit] Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

They would return in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door on Bowser's third platform level. They could be defeated by Bowser's firebreath. If Bowser touches one, he will decrease in size or be defeated. They would also appear in the Palace of Shadow.

In Super Paper Mario, they would appear in Chapter 1-4 and 8-2 similar to that of Super Mario Bros.

[edit] Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

They would appear in certain forts and castles in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. They could be shown as swinging three-dimensionally. They would return in Yoshi's Island DS.
