 Game History
 Super Mario Series
It would first appear in Super Mario Bros. 3 on Desert Hill. When it spots Mario, it will start to chase him by bouncing and try to touch him with its flaming body. It could only be defeated if it is hit by a Shell or a Hammer or by having Mario touch it while still using the Starmen or by whacking it with his tail when he is Raccoon Mario or Tanooki Mario or a stomp from Statue Mario. It could also fall into a pit though it will reappear after a few seconds. The Fire Snake would get eyes in later remakes of the game.
Though they are called Fire Snakes in the official English language players' guides, these enemies would appear very differently from other Fire Snakes. They could be found only on the Outrageous level where they are faceless heads of fire that will attack as they jump towards the player while leaving a trail of fire that will last a few seconds and can harm the player if touched. They could be defeated from the cape or by being eaten with Yoshi. Mario could also bounce on them with the Spin Jump.
They would appear as uncommon enemies in New Super Mario Bros. On the stage 2-5, they would try to attack Mario by chasing them by bouncing and trying to touch them with their flames. They could only be defeated by throwing a Shell at them or touching them while Mario is in their Starman or Mega Mushroom state. They would also be able to fall into pits and reappear after only few seconds.
Fire Snakes would return in New Super Mario Bros. Wii with the same actions from New Super Mario Bros., but with a new ability. Once they have hopped once or twice, their heads will enlarge before going back to regular size. They could only be found on World 2-3 and could be defeated with a Starman or ice.
Fire Snakes also appear in New Super Mario Bros. 2.
 Nintendo Adventure Books
A swarm of Fire snakes could be encountered in Double Trouble in the Koopahari Desert when Mario decides to take the shortcut to Fort Koopa. Mario can either decide to dodge or escape them, or is sent running after being singed twice, losing his Super Mushroom during this. Fewer Fire Snakes could be found on the main road to Fort Koopa but are easily avoided.
Two of them would appear as competitors in the International Mushroom Games in Leaping Lizards and be called the Sneaks. During the Beetlebowl, an all-team game, they may try to leap into the middle of the ring when the event begins and flare up. They would blind anyone nearby besides Roy Koopa and their Rocky Wrench teammate because of their sunglasses. When one of the Fire Snakes grab a Hoopster and try to dunk it into the Mushroom Kingdom Royale, Mario will unintentionally stop it when the Mushroom King hops by, causing Mario to sneeze and blow the Fire Snake out.
Two Fire Snakes would be mini-bosses in Yoshi's Safari. They could be defeated by being blasted by Mario repeatedly with his Super Scope.
 Mario Kart series
They would appear on the Desert Hills track in Mario Kart DS after the Angry Sun would shoot them down onto the course and if they are touched by the racers, then they will cause the racer to spin out.
They would appear on two tracks in Mario Kart Wii with the same function as they did in Mario Kart DS. It would first appear on Desert Hills from Mario Kart DS, then again on Grumble Volcano near the end of the track by hopping out of pipes that are found on the side of the tracks.
One Fire Snake would appear in the episode Princess Toadstool for President where Mario and Luigi would end up in Dark Land where they get ambushed by a group of enemies that include Fire Snakes. A Fire Snake could be found in Crimes R Us after the Koopalings break into the Mushroom Kingdom Treasury, where a Chain Chomp will open the barred window, while a Ptooie] will blast a hole in the wall and a Fire Snake will bust a whole in the roof. And they would appear in Recycled Koopa when a Koopa Zombie attacks Luigi with three Fire Snakes.
