Donkey Kong is an arcade game that was first released in 1981 and developed by by Shigeru Miyamoto. The three characters in the game are Jumpman, Donkey Kong, and Pauline. After this game, Jumpman is known as Mario. The Donkey Kong in this game is stated to be an ancestor of the modern Donkey Kong. Pauline is a very close resemblance of Princess Peach. This game features the first appearance by Donkey Kong, and the only appearance by Pauline.

The story of Donkey Kong is similar to that of most recent games in the Mario series. Jumpman is trying to rescue Pauline, who was taken away by Donkey Kong. Jumpman has to over-come a series of obstacles, such as barrels, fire-balls, and springs, to save the damsel in distress.
There are four different levels in the game. They are:
- 25 M
- 50 M
- 75 M
- 100 M
Donkey Kong was only the second game ever to have multiple levels, making it one of the most complex games of its time.
