Debut Appearance Super Mario Bros.
Latest Appearance New Super Mario Bros. U

Coins are in almost every Mario game and have different purposes in each game. In games in the Paper Mario series of games, for example, Coins are a form of money; while in core Super Mario type games (such as Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy) it is a form of healing. They are also sometimes the key to unlocking bonuses and different modes in some games, while having other meanings in other games. Mainly, however, they are either used for the main purpose of money or healing. In Mario Sports Mix, the number of coins you collect in various sports will have added effects, such as raising the number of points you receive if you score, or raising attack power in others.
