Species Shadow
Max HP 9, 30

Log First Battle:
The eldest sister and leader of the Shadow Sirens, she uses magic to attack. Her personality stinks.

Second Battle:
Leader of the three Shadow Sirens. She'll throw all sorts of magic at you and has a very unpleasant disposition.

Items Flurrie's Necklace

Appearing in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, she is the leader of the Shadow Sirens which consists of herself and her two sisters Marilyn and Vivian. Bossy, arrogant, and cruel, Beldam is constantly berrating her youngest sister Vivian (most likely out of jealousy for her beauty or something) and praising her other sister Marilyn (heaven knows why: the girl can only grunt, moan, and throw her weight around). The evil mastermind behind it all, Beldam is a worthy adversary on and off the battle field.

[edit] Appearances

[edit] Title Sequence

You guessed it! The strange, hooded figure is none other than Beldam, trying to get Peach and her pure heart to open up the mysterious, locked box. As step one in her plan for world domination, things shatter in the beginning (a fair warning to quit while you're ahead, but as we all know, Mario villians are persistant critters) when Toadsworth arrives on the scene. Beldam is forced to leave the map behind and it is sent to Mario, bringing our fearless hero on the scene.

[edit] X-Naut Fortress

Beldam and her sisters are seen once or twice in Sir Grotus' main room in the X-Naut Fortress. All they do is take orders and act subservient to him. Nothing much of interest except for the obtained sketch of Mario so they know what their target looks like.

[edit] Boggly Woods

The start of a series of ridicule, the sketch the Shadow Sirens obtained at the X-Naut Fortress has been misplaced by Beldam but she blames it on Vivian. While scolding her for losing their only clue on Mario's appearance, Mario himself walks by. Marilyn seems to recognize him, but Beldam is too busy yelling to notice him and Vivian is too busy whimpering.

Mario has to pass by the Sirens once more looking for Madame Flurrie's lost necklace. Vivian has found it and is intent on keeping it. Beldam decides to 'punish' Vivian for losing the sketch in the first place by claiming the necklace. When Mario shows up, the Shadow Sirens recognize him with thier acquired sketch and battle him. They lose (if the player is capable) and flee, leaving the necklace behind.

[edit] Twilight Town

The next time we see the Shadow Sirens in action, Mario has reached the pig-infested town of twilight. Yes, Twilight Town is here. Blending in nicely with their purple colors, Beldam is explaining to the girls about her amazing new weapon: a Superbombomb that should take care of Mario. She asks Vivian for it, and again misplacing it herself, Vivian does not have the bomb and she has become the scapegoat for Beldam's mistakes yet again. Beldam and Marilyn leave Vivian to find the Superbombomb or face harsh punishment. These punishments are never elaborated on.

When Beldam and Marilyn return, Vivian has gone with Mario and the Superbombomb is not in sight. Missing their weapon and their sister, the Sirens stand confused as Doopliss runs by. Beldam sees his potential and he becomes the new Vivian. He will face Vivian's old blame.

[edit] Poshley Sanctum

Although Doopliss is seen at Riverside and Beldam spies on Mario at a time, the next time we see the Shadow Sirens in action is at Poshley Sanctum. Bedlam and Marilyn gawk over the Garnet Crystal Star. They quickly steal it, and Doopliss breaks the window in the process. Sillies didn't realize it was the fake.

[edit] The Palace of Shadow

The Shadow Sirens are all over the place (surprise, surprise) in here. It's not specified whether it was Beldam or Sir Grotus, but one of the two put Doopliss up to pretending to be Professor Frankly and anyone of them threw the real Professor in the closet. This was to fool Mario into using the Crystal Stars to open the Thousand-Year Door, something Professor Frankly would probably warm them not to do without extreme caution if at all.

Halfway through the Palace, Beldam, Marilyn, and Doopliss block Mario's path and demand a fight. It's all a folly to weaken him, but Mario fights heroically (how else?) and bests them in the struggle.

After the fight with Sir Grotus and Bowser, Mario must face the Shadow Queen. The gloves are off now and Beldam proclaims her true service to the Shadow Queen (hm, this must make Vivian feel awkward if she didn't know about all of this) as does Marilyn. Mario fights the Shadow Queen and at her defeat, everyone escapes the Palace of Shadow. Now that her plan has utterly failed, Beldam seems to have done some thinking and reconsiders her past transgressions. She seeks out Vivian, apologizes, and accepting her apology, Vivian leaves with her two sisters to live peacefully in Twilight Town.

[edit] Attacks

[edit] First Battle

Beldam is simple to start out with, but it must be taken into consideration that Mario is rather easily defeated at this level, too. Beldam is situated in the back of the line of Shadow Sirens (bravely hiding behind her sisters, no doubt - well, I can see hiding behind Marilyn, she's like a squishy wall to little Beldam). Her attack is 1-2 and defense is 0. Her HP is 9. Don't be fooled though! Take out Beldam quickly or else you'll feel a nasty onslaught of magical hassles. She may be the weakest siren, but she's a pain.

Ice Punch
Uses her fist and hits either Mario or his partner.
Attack by 1
Blizzard
Uses an icy wind to bombard Mario and his partner.
Attack by 2
Shrink
Magic that shrinks Mario and his partner, weakening their attack and defense abilities.
Grow
Magic that makes one of her sisters (most likely Marilyn) grow increasing her attack, defense, and size (She could probably sit on Mario and finish this... Ew...).
Poison
Magic that poisons Mario and his partner for a short period of time.
Attack by 1 per turn active
Double Time
Magic that gives one of her sisters (most likely Marilyn) the chance to attack again in the same turn.
Minus
Magic that makes Mario or his partner miss a turn, every other turn
No
Magic that disables one of Mario's abilities for a time

[edit] Second Battle

Beldam's magic is the same... for the most part. She's stronger this time around in the Palace of Shadow and she's not going to walk away too easily. Her attack is 5 and her defense is still 0. Her HP is 30. Take her out early, but Marilyn is the worst, so go for her first. (She gets most of Beldam's upgrades anyway, so it only makes sense - why power up someone with a name like Doopliss? Why even bother?)

[edit] Tattle Log

[edit] First Battle

That's Beldam. She's the oldest sister, the leader of the Shadow Sirens. She can make her partners big and make us tiny, and attacks with weird magic. The worst thing about her is that sinister snicker. She sounds so totally evil! I mean, she's just the sort of person you want to avoid like the plague, y'know?

[edit] Second Battle

That's Beldam. She's the leader of the Shadow Sirens. Her special move is a blizzard blast. If it hits you, you'll totally freeze. She has lots of other tricks up her sleeves, too. I wonder what that plan was that she mentioned? What do you think they're up to?
