The Beanstalk (or Magic Vines or just Vines) could be found inside of ? Blocks in the Mario series. They could be used as ladders for Mario to reach hidden areas like the Coin Heaven. After Mario has hit the block that contains the beanstalk, it will grow upwards into the sky. The Beanstalks will normally have Piranha Plants as their heads as they grown, though they will disappear after it has fully grown. The Beanstalk would first appear in Super Mario Bros..
 Game History
 Super Mario Series
Beanstalks would make their first appearance in Super Mario Bros.. They could found in brick blocks and invisible ? Blocks. When they are activated, they will take the player to either Coin Heaven or Warp Zones.
Beanstalks would return in Super Mario Bros. 2 where they would not have to be activated as they would already be grown into the level.
Beanstalks would match the color scheme of the world they are found in Super Mario Bros. 3. Like if they were in World 2, then the Beanstalk would be blue. In the All-Stars and Advance versions of the game, the head of the Beanstalk would look like a Piranha Plant, this trait would stay throughout the series.
Super Mario World would see the beanstalk return to being just the color green and would come out of the breakable blocks after they have been hit. The beanstalk will continue to rise even if the Block has been removed by Mario to create a shortcut. If the player is carrying a P-Switch, they will not be able to climb normally though they can kick the item up, start climbing then hold the Y Button to catch the item as it comes down.
Beanstalks would appear once more in New Super Mario Bros. Alongside being able to grow upwards, they can also grown downwards if the character hits the block from above. The Beanstalks Piranha Plant head would not resemble a regular Piranha Plant.
Beanstalks would be seen again in New Super Mario Bros. Wii with the same function as they did in previous games but with a slight appearance. The tip of the Beanstalk would return to their original green appearance. There would also be a Beanstalk on the World Map in World 7 where it would lead to the World 7-Castle.
Beanstalks would appear in New Super Mario Bros. 2.
New Super Mario Bros. U would see the Beanstalk return again and act like they did in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. There would also be a new type of Beanstalk that is very large and have wilting leaves on it to jump on.
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars would have only have two beanstalks that appear in the game. The first one could be found at the end of Bean Valley, and the other would be obtained after a side quest in Rose Town that will lead to the secret items Lazy Shells.
 Mario Party Series
There would be a Beanstalk that will access from a Lucky Space on Toad Road. It will take the captain to a cloud that will allow them to collect Mini Stars. The Beanstalks would also appear in the minigame, Growing Up where they would come out from the Brick Blocks as they are hit.
 Super Mario Bros.: Peach-hime Kyushutsu Dai Sakusen!
A Beanstalk would help Mario and the others to escape the attacking Spinies in Super Mario Bros.: Peach-hime Kyushutsu Dai Sakusen!.
The Beanstalk could be seen in the episode Mario and the Beanstalk where it would be a spoof of Jack and the Beanstalk. The beans would grow into a huge beanstalk overnight that would allow Mario's group to climb into the clouds and find King Koopa's castle.
There would be small Beanstalks that could be seen in the background of some of the episodes in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 though they would never play a role in any episode.
 Super Mario World television series
There are countless Beanstalks found in the episode Party Line in the Super Mario world TV series. They would be used as telephone lines for the Cave People of Dome City. Once the concept of the telephones were proved to be unnecessary, Yoshi would be given the job to eat all the vines.
A Beanstalk would be seen in a cutscene in Hotel Mario after Luigi kicks an ! Block and it would sprout out for Mario and Luigi to climb to go to Lemmy's High-ate Regency Hotel.
 Yoshi series
The Beanstalk would be an item in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Island DS where they would have a smaller head and eyes in the latter game. They would occasionally come out of the ? Mark Cloud and Yoshi can uncover one of the seeds. It will then grow towards the sky at a fast rate as it produces ledge-like leaves so that the player can climb up it.
