The 10 Gold Coins would first appear in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars alongside the regular coins and Frog Coins. They would look like regular coins in this game though they would be larger than regular coins.
[edit] Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time
They could also be seen in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. Their appearance in this game would have them showing a 10 on them and could be found in ? Blocks or in the chasm in Thwomp Caverns. They are bigger than regular coins and will give them ten coins when collected.
[edit] New Super Mario Bros. 2
The 10 Gold Coins would return in New Super Mario Bros. 2. They would have the same design as they did in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time and could be found in Roulette Blocks that produce coins.
[edit] Wario Land series
[edit] Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3
The 10 Gold Coins could be found in Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 where they would look like normal coins but have a cross stamped on them. They would only appear after certain enemies were defeated in a certain way and would make a unique noise when they are collected.
Wario can also use this item to throw at enemies by pressing B button and "up" on the directional pad. This will cost him ten coins and it is necessary to open Goal Doors and complete the level.
[edit] Wario Land II
It would return in Wario Land II under the name Wario Coins. They would be golden coins that have Wario's face on them and are a lot bigger than regular coins. Wario's coin counter will increase by ten when he picks up one of these coins and they will give off a unique sound when collected. They could be used for purchasing minigames to find hidden treasures.
Wario Coins could be found in secret rooms or locations that are hard to access.
