Ala-Gold, also referred to simply as Yellow Toad, is a Toad and is seen as a playable character in New Super Mario Bros. Wii in co-op mode, alongside Mario, Luigi and Bucken-Berry.

Ala-Gold functions as a main character in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, serving the same purpose as Mario and the other available co-op characters. This marks the first time that a character other than Mario or Luigi is made the main hero of a main series game. Ala-Gold can obtain all of the same power-ups that Mario and his friends can, which means he can also defeat every boss in the game, including the final boss, Bowser.

This certain character (Yellow Toad) is actually seen in many different games, such as Super Mario Sunshine and Mario Super Sluggers. However, Ala-Gold is the first named Yellow Toad, and his first appearance is New Super Mario Bros. Wii. He is one of the first named members of this species that only has a color variation that isn't "Toad".
